Registration for spring/summer Spanish classes now open!

Registration is now open for a variety of Spanish spring/summer classes: Spanish for Travelers, A Comprehensive Introduction, Intermediate, and Advanced. Classes in German and English grammar are also available upon request. See below for complete course descriptions and times.

Registration for each course is $200. Register and pay by May 1 for a $20 discount! Refer another participant and receive an additional $20 discount. See below for details.

Each course meets for one hour per week and lasts for 14 weeks, starting the week of May 13 and ending the week of August 12. All classes meet at 176 Main Street in Owego.

Spanish for Travelers
Thursdays 7 pm
This course is designed for anyone planning to take a trip to a Spanish-speaking country and introduces basic vocabulary, grammar, and context-based conversational phrases and dialogue. The primary goal is learning fundamentals in basic verbal communication for various contexts while traveling.

Spanish: A Comprehensive Introduction
Mondays 7 pm or Thursdays 1 pm
(There are two options for this class)
This fast-paced course offers a comprehensive introduction to various components of the Spanish language, including pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, writing, and reading. This course is more intense with homework outside of class, but offers a more detailed understanding of the language than “Spanish for Travelers”.

Intermediate Spanish
Tuesdays 7 pm
This course builds upon basic knowledge of Spanish to further develop skills in grammar, vocabulary, reading, speaking, and writing. Content includes a review of basic grammar and then introduces more advanced grammatical concepts. In addition, reading and listening exercises offer opportunities to improve these specific skills while also expanding one’s vocabulary and improving skills in speaking and writing.

Advanced Spanish
Wednesdays 6:30 pm
This course is designed for individuals who have a more advanced command of Spanish in conversation, writing, and reading. The primary goal is to develop skills in listening and speaking based on a fundamental foundation in Spanish grammar and vocabulary. We will use cultural materials (such as news articles, videos, podcasts, etc.) as the means for discussion and writing exercises. Participants in this course should have a general command of Spanish grammar and vocabulary.

Spanish for Kids
Thursdays 4 pm
This course is designed for a younger audience (ages approx. 5-10.) Students learn basic phrases and vocabulary through interactive and engaging methods, including games, music, visual arts, and reflective reading. Adults who register children for this course are encouraged to stay for the class. You can learn some Spanish as well at no additional cost!

German for Travelers
This course is designed for anyone planning to take a trip to a German-speaking country and introduces basic vocabulary, grammar, and context-based conversational phrases and dialogue. The primary goal is learning fundamentals in basic verbal communication for various contexts while traveling.

English: Fundamentals of Grammar
This course offers a fundamental and detailed overview of various aspects of English grammar. By thoroughly understanding word choice, parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation, participants can refine their understanding of the English language for more effective communication and greater credibility.

 

Early registration and referral discounts
In order to earn a $20 discount for early registration, all registrations and payments must be received by May 1. All payments sent by mail that are postmarked by May 1 will receive the discount. In order to receive a $20 discount for referrals, the referred participant must have registered and paid by or on the first day of the class. Refund checks will be issued to anyone who has already registered and paid for a class and then makes a referral that results in an additional registered and paid participant.

 

Refunds
Refunds are available upon request through the fourth week of classes. The refund amount shall correspond to the prorated value for the total number of classes remaining after the request has been submitted. Refunds cannot be granted after the fifth week has started.
